Not only do Brianne's drawings have great style and flair, they also use classic principles-the same ones I always crab about.
Her stylistic influences are obviously a different assortment than mine (with some overlap) but they are held together by the same exact principles that my artists aspire too.

Her designs are real designs, not just collections of unrelated abstract flat shapes. They have hierarchy - an overall statement that is then broken down into levels of sub forms and details that obey the planes of the larger forms.
Her drawings have form; she can draw from difficult angles and in many styles.
She almost makes me like Anime!
Beautiful shapes, contrasts, large negative areas, clear silhouettes, line of action, construction....the whole shebang of good drawing skills, and to top it off, a lot of individuality and fun!

Every single one of those girls will be in my dreams tonight. Thanks, John!
I laugh when people tell me I can draw. Just looking at the 3rd image of that sketch page....THAT is someone who can draw. Great art.
EEEeek! Thanks John! They have alot of problems but it is nice you care for them. Although I did not create Nono and Sailor Moon. Are you going to San Diego this week for the convention? Signing stuff and showing off your fancy toy proto types?
I love Brianne's work, she really understands color and you can see the joy in her work. Both of these elements are rare.
THE NONO ROCKS MY FACE.
Hmmm...so does this mean you are starting to warm towards the anime style, John?
Grril stuff ROCKS! Thanks or posting.
Pink and purple,
Ashanti
All that coloring is bootfiul.
hi John, just letting you know, that Gene Hazeltons son emailed me. He had found my site. I posted it on my page. He was very nice. He did have to sell the house.
Maggie
I love Brianne's work - her use of colour blows me away, and there's such a sense of joy to them
(btw, thanks for looking at my clean-up yesterday. I've posted the rest of them, but only the pencil versions)
Hey John
I was curious if you were going to put anymore layouts up? I really enjoyed doing the layouts. I learned alot.
What else are you looking for the whole project?
Haha...there's a picture of Homer Simpson on your blog page now. Although he has a better facial expresiion that one would normally expect since, like, 1997....
Brianne's artwork is wonderful, a pure eye candy! I love the way she's mixing Anime influences with cartoony principles and dynamic poses. Plus, her use of color is masterful. Great to see a tribute to her, hopefully she'll get lot of new fans.
Wow, awesome stuff.
beautiful stuff indeed! I agree with marlo's comment- so much joy and playfulness in both her drawings and color work. :D I've enjoyed reading Brianne's blog for a while- it was confusing seeing her stuff show up in your blog this morning!! ha ha!
These are very cool, dont really care for the anime derived stuff though.
(not a comment on the ability of the artist, just the subject material)
All that Sailor moon stuff is just generic poorly designed, like speed racer to me.
The Japanese are horrible designers for the most part.
Thats why they are facsinated by our 50's and 60's products and buy them up. just compare their cars to ours throughout history.
Anime does nothing for me.
At least speed racer was made in the 60's though so it has a little retro look to it and it had a cool theme song, but thats it.
HI JOHN!
Could you recommend us any artists who escape to the classic construction of cartoons that are not Milt Gross or Harvey Kurtzman?
I want to explore new ideas and try to get off of my head the idea of the construction made of pears and pipes!!
thanks! your pal, Paul.
Huh?
Whoa, nice mix of anime and classic animation principles.
wicked.
