I started to tighten up Ernie and add little stylistic crap in small doses. I don't do that until the whole layout is figured out - and the other layouts that use the same setups.The stylistic stuff is only about 2% of the picture. The rest is story, character, function and guts.
Style means nothing if the picture already doesn't make sense or have a reason to exist.

The best cartoons are yours, undoubtedly. I was thirteen when I discovered Ren & Stimpy, translated in Spanish (I'm from Argentina). Now I'm 28, but I've always been interested to see what you've been doing and a few days ago found this blog. I'll be starting to study animation in a few months - You're definitively my inspiration. I deeply admire this loose way of drawing and there's so much character and life on those faces you draw. Best regards!
This is really cool stuff John, i love seeing the process unfold. Do your layouts become the main keys in the animation?
"guts" like not scared to draw something outlandish or "guts" like all the intense attention to detail and not selling out to brainwashed over-consuming corn-fed domesticated cows?
