I've been recommending this blog to every cartoonist I know. I'm gob-smacked at how much good info there is here, and how generous you are to share it with us. Thanks!
I've had success with a Copic Marker appropriately named "Flesh"... of course, it's a caucasian color, but I've enjoyed my "Sand" and "Medium Brown" for a darker skin color.
Currently watching the Lost Episodes.. Really enjoying the pre-show interviews.
Here is a link to an Onion article I think you will find funny. It goes along with the whole "go against the rules even though the rules make sense" theme.
I love the coloring on Ren. Also, are those prisma markers? I keep hearing people debate copic markers vs. prisma markers. What makes one better than the other?
real quick question, how does one get invited to your cartoon college? or how does one convince you to allow him or her to apply for a job with your animation studios.

i can never seem to get the right color for outlining when i draw flesh colored characters... may i ask what you use?
Is it Nico's birthday? I didn't get a head's up on Facebook. Hrm.
I wish you could get real in depth with the marker how-to's... specifically, how to avoid blotchiness.
What kind of markers do you use, John? Do you like Copics?
Also, do you ever make color doodles first to see what colors work best or are you at the stage now where you can pretty much wing it?
Hi Mansard, I usually use a brown brush pen to outline flesh.
Trevor: I keep an extra sheet of bristol board next to me and scribble colors and mixes on it as I do the artwork, but I mostly wing it.
But this picture was colored by Kali.
I did the drawing and the inking. She did the fancy-pants part.
I can't wait to see what treats you have in store John
you are one of my heroes.

Those are chartpaks, prism, copics and trias combined- they're all great for different reasons.
