Finally, there is a book reprinting my favorite work of his "Milt Gross Funnies". This is a must for every funny cartoonist and fan of cartoons!

His amazing life story is also included. I'll tell you more when I get my copy in the mail, but I checked out Mike's the other day and it was filled with comics I had never seen.

JUST A HANDFUL OF THINGS HE'S GREAT AT

Darn straight!
very cool- thanks for telling about it!
I already saved the page I could get it cheapest yesterday, I must have this for my birthday.
That panel of "Archie" getting beaned with an alarm clock is hysterical. Hope my copy arrives soon, too.
Milt Rocks. "He Done Her Wrong" is the greatest single comic story ever finished.
Segue: I'm not on Reddit, and I've joined so many things just to reply to one thing, so I'm just gonna get this out of my chest right here:
John K: " (Frank Zappa's) "Call Any Vegetable" was made for animation."
Me: YES! YES! YESYESYESYESYESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAARRRRRRSSSS!!!!!!!
In fact, I'd go one further - I would love to animate that ENTIRE SUITE, from "Duke of Prunes" (or optionally "Plastic People") through "Soft-Cell Conclusion", complete with a deliberate attempt at crafting the funniest overheated passion faces ever drawn for lines such as "I see your looooooovely beeeeeeaaannnsss, and in that maaaagic goooo-kaaaart, I biiiiite your neeeeck!!!!"
A tip from someone who's actually thought about this before, not that you need it: For the beginning of "Vegetable"? Simple: line of Fleischer veggies rhumba facing frontward for first statement of riff, jump/twirl and pop up/down alternating butt cheeks (Fontanelli-grade shine REQUIRED) for repeat. Once the vocal comes in....I leave that to you.....
The vegetables must have genuine sensuality & natural heft so you feel the firm flesh of a tomato & the sun-warmed skin of an eggplant.
You must try to make sexual vegans of your audience!
I can't wait for my copy to show up!
The book is every bit as wonderful as I hoped it would be!
Got mine today, it's Awesome.
I'm gonna have to take it slow in small doses though. To savor.
Cheers a bucket for introducing me to Milt Gross his stuff is so gawd damn fun to look at.
John,
I knew you were a Milt Gross fan way back when I first saw a dog in the pound with Ren that bore a strong resemblance to either Iggy or JR.
If this book succeeds maybe there'll be a reprinting of some of his strips. It'll be about time.
