Thats great, designing a statue has been on my todo list for a long time now, so how much whould a sculptor charge for somthing like this? i was thinking bout rebuilding my character pose inside 3dsmax and then sending it to a 3d printing company. but the charge for 3d printing is really high. I'll get to it sooner or later =), if you could give us a run down of how you managed that whould be great. =) thanx john
I think three dimentional drawings are what separates the men from the boys, somehow it not only becomes more convincing but i tend to notice that the artist is really thinking on another level.
Oh by the who, I couldn't resist drawing up that Oswald cover you posted a while ago, please take a second to have a look.
It doesn't seem as expressive but it may be a lot to do with it all being one colour at the moment as from the side it's hard to see the bulge under the eyes etc. Maybe some better camera angles would help to see.
When I'm not as busy I'm gonna have a go at this in Maya for fun!

Yesterday i received my Harvey Comics Hot Stuff compilation, and I am enjoying Howie Post's work, as well as learing from it. Great composition, balance, drawing skill... and awesome inking too. Thanks for discovering me such a great artist.

One thing that you have to take into consideration is that the toy needs to be able to stand on its own. I like the extended neck in the second doodle but Pussy has a big head so he would fall forward unless his head was lightened somehow.
One thing I noticed is that his face is too symmetrical. The squareness of Pussy's left lip in the second doodle does a lot in making his expression but that's missing in the sculpture.

Generally speaking, lots of cartoon characters appear exceedingly grotesque when rendered in 3-D. None of the old Warner Brothers or Hanna Barbera toons are hideous when so interpreted.
The worst: The Simpsons.
I was in a flea market some years back and stumbled upon a solid metal painted toy of Beaky the vulture. It even had his name on the base. I turned around while I was thinking about it...or something like that...and when I got back to the table it had been purchased by someone else. At any rate, Beaky came out as funny in 3-D as he was in 2-D.
NICE! Chris Peterson is one great sculptor. I remember him doing sculpts of some hideous FILMATION designs twenty-five years ago and he somehow made them look appealing. That takes talent. And you can really tell the man knows pussy cats.

The sculpt and sketches are both terrific! Since Cigarettes the Cat is one of my favorites, I'll definitely buy that toy when it comes out!
I wonder if that's Dirty Dog behind him (in the sixth picture below).

I use plastalina fur my puppet making(im a puppeter), but i never got the stifness of this wonderfull sculpting product ... Its really sculptey?
