I like reading the letters and apologize for not being able to answer every one directly.

Save your art and souvenirs

May I suggest that if you do send mail that you don’t include art or other stuff that you’d like returned because like I said I can’t respond to each and every letter.

I’d hate to see you buy prints and things from someone else and lose ‘em in the mail.

New Doodle Pad

I managed to find another doodle pad at the dollar store but It's a brand I hadn't used before.

It's a Crayola pad but unlike the the whole wheat newsprint I like this paper is smooth and slippery.

I'm not used to drawing on it yet. My pen keeps sliding off past where I want the lines to go. My first doodles were especially crappy.

Here's a lady I saw on the news yesterday. The scratchy sort of realistic sketch (#1) towards the center of the page was my first attempt to analyze her head shape and structure.

Then I did a couple more trying to loosen up and exaggerate her.

 

Yellow Pad Doodles

I actually like sketching on newsprint doodle pads most but I ran out a few days ago so reverted to lined yellow pads.

 

You know I tried looking all over for writing pads that don't have lines on them but they are really hard to find. They used to be quite common but seem to have gone almost extinct.

Cardboard Doodles

I like to draw on the backs of writing and doodle pads. The rough texture gives me a little thrill. It makes me feel like I am a part of nature - like I am drawing on whole wheat.

 

By the way I sometimes use these cardboard sketches as envelope stiffeners for the drawings people order at my store.

You might find one included in a mystery pack or in the marker sketch envelopes.

Not always, but whenever I have some handy - which I do right now.

Random Doodles

 

I've been in a bit of a creative slump since being cooped up by the coronavirus lock down so I took a few days off from sketching.

I just picked up again yesterday. Here are some doodles I drew while watching Fareed and eating bacon this morning:

So I guess the Flintstones, B.C., Alley Oop and other classic cartoon caveman characters lived during the Mesozoic since they cavorted with dinosaurs.

It makes me wonder how they wore furs - being that large mammals hadn't evolved yet.

They'd have to sew together 20 shrew-sized proto-mammals to get one decent suit out of it.

 

Thinking like an executive, would it be more logical that they'd be wearing reptile skins with scales and maybe feathers instead of fur?

Of course we won't question why we humans who are large mammals ourselves managed to be running around in the Mesozoic - we can just chalk it up to God dumping us there to test us.
